What a great country we live in. We are constantly helping to equalize fairness in our society. We put forth rules and regulations which help women and minorities so they can advance and move up in our world. This is a wonderful thing we are doing in the United States of America. We should all be proud that we have broken the glass ceiling for the leadership of our country by electing, and even reelecting our first black president.Today, we have women running the largest corporations in America, and they’re doing just as good a job as the men had, some of them even better. Indeed, some psychologists even believe that women are more suited to run these corporations because they’ve done an excellent job with the relationship building which provides better unity and strength for these corporations.Recently, I noted that the Dallas Business Journal announced the “2013 Minority Business Leader Awards Program,” and this wonderful program noted that they were taking nominations;”We are looking for minority owners of fast-growing, successful or innovative companies, ethnic minorities who are corporate executives with high levels of responsibility at their companies, and a corporate advocate of any ethnicity who is highly effective at and deserves recognition for supporting minority business owners and executives.”Now then, I have a question; what exactly is a minority? Is it someone who is of an ethnic origin that isn’t white? The reason I ask this question is I was in San Antonio not too long ago, and I learned that it is 66% Hispanic. Nevertheless, Hispanic is listed amongst those who are minorities. So now we have a situation where we are labeling a group of people “minorities” when actuality they are the majority. Now one could say previously they had been the minority in leadership positions, even if they are the majority of the population. That is no longer the case either, as we see more minorities rapidly ascending the ladder. In the case of women, they’ve never been a minority, in fact 50% of the people in our country are women as you know; actually there are a few more women than men now.As you probably guessed, there are no special awards, ceremonies, or accolades for white men, who by the way are now the minority. Are we practicing in our present period a role reversal? It is interesting that white men never complain that they’re the minority, even though they are in many regards. Maybe in the future we will give awards to everyone who is deserving of such praise regardless of the color of their skin, ethnicity, or sex. Please consider all this and think on it.
