We hear all the time that our food is mislabeled, and there have been recent issues with fish which were of a different type than what was on the package, we know from DNA tests in fact, so there is no denying it with that level of forensic evidence. Here in the US we found beef products which actually had horse meat in it, not too cool. What about food from other countries? Yes, let’s talk about why a good many people are concerned these days, as we just learned of a scary situation in China.Okay so, I have to ask the questions and then explain myself here; Do US consumers need to stop purchasing Chinese food products? Do American consumers need to tell the FDA that if they cannot do their job then we will have no choice by to come up with a popular uprising and boycott all food products from China? Would we have to also boycott any food products from US companies with ingredients in them from China? Could we even know, or would we have to find out and do some investigations into what is in what? The reason I ask is that I recently read where the Chinese government had cracked down on pork producers and the producers killed nearly 6000 pigs, and they then threw them into the water, into a major river in fact. There was an article on this in Bloomberg; “Shanghai Ups Checks on River After Dead Pigs Double to 6,000” published on March 12, 2013.Now then, one has to ask if there are any ethics with regards to food processors in China, after all, when told they were not following food rules, they threw the pigs into the river, something even more unhealthy, and that river runs into the ocean, and that’s where there are fish in fish farms, that yes, are also caught and some sent to the US and fed to Chinese too. Ever heard of swine flu, not too cool if you ask me.Lastly, it is clear that not all the rules are followed in China, and we need safe food for a healthy US citizenry. If our government or their government won’t protect the consumers then the consumers need to protect themselves. You see, as a taxpayer, I don’t believe I should be subsidizing health care for potentially unhealthy or even possibly cancerous food regardless of which country they are from. Do you see that point? Our health care costs are already too high.Okay so, please consider all this and think on it, because it was a serious topic recently at our think tank. The United States went through a period of regulatory crack downs on food processors and farms, we have tough laws here. By passing those rules by using imports without the same rules, surely makes no sense whatsoever, even if the costs are much lower to do so.
