Negotiations continued between the NHLPA and the NHL on the afternoon of October 2nd, 2012. Low and behold they actually agreed on something. Both sides agree that they can`t agree on the dividend of the finances between both parties. There were no new appointments made in the future and this has fans such as myself on edge because the 2012-2013 season opener is on October 11th, nine days from now. All fans of the NHL are now called up to action in regards to this disarray and neglect from the owners and the players association.Fans have already done something to alleviate the pain of the lockout. People have already wrote songs about the lockout and posted it on YouTube. There is now an online petition on Sportsnet.ca so fans can have their name marked and express their show of support for a go-ahead on the season. Other bloggers have even posted articles about their philosophies on the league and its disputes. One blogger even mentioned that a creation of the National FANS Hockey League is possible and the funds plus the knowledge is there as well.I think the ideas mentioned above aren`t drastic enough measures to get the parties of the ones bargaining to listen. A full blown North American Hockey with an equivalent amount of talent from the participating players is needed so the NHL has a little competition to work with. Instead of owners fighting against their players, owners would be fighting against owners from the other league instead and that kind of battle will guarantee no work stoppage as the winner in the end is determined by success in revenue and prosperity. Imagine if fans have double the hockey, double the arenas in each city, double the coverage. It is possible to have the best of both worlds and this type of hockey league is possible but not without questions.”Is there enough room for two major hockey leagues?” I say the answer is yes because $3.3 billion which is the amount made by the entire NHL last year is enough money for the underdogs to take a swipe at. ” Would there be enough players being able to sign with this league to maintain the fans interest?” My answer is that the talent in the hockey environment of all kinds is getting much better. There are constantly breakthroughs with exercise and diet methods which in turn make people stronger athletes. ” What are the economical benefits of having this league as a counterpart to the NHL?” There will many benefits directly and indirectly. The construction of new arenas will take hundreds and hundreds of jobs all over North America plus workers are needed to run the concession stand or check tickets at the door are needed once arenas are built so that is a good benefit there. Companies who want to advertise through the new league are able to have a broader branding presence and can even advertise with both major hockey leagues to have the strongest impact possible. Ticket prices for both leagues would be cheaper because they have to focus on competing with each other with bringing fans through the front door. Hockey has the potential to be the most recognizable sport in the world because two major leagues are better than one. Baseball, Basketball, Football each only have one recognized major league. The other leagues within those sports have talent levels noticeably less than their respective parent leagues. Having two recognized major leagues can unleash the power of branding the sport to be the best and can have a high influence on viewers and fans of all likes and ages in general. Having two major leagues can have twice the millionaires because the players still need to be paid for their services for providing entertaining hockey. There would also be twice the billionaires as well because people need to own these teams take charge of their franchise. This my favourite question of all and it is “How would the establishment of another major league affect the NHL?” Hmmm lets see the financially struggling franchises such as the Phoenix Coyotes and the Florida Panthers would either have to move or shutdown. There would be no such thing as a lockout with too much at stake for the competition to take advantage of. There would be major profit losses for the NHL due to the added competition and finally the NHL wouldn`t be a monopoly anymore. With four lockouts since 1992, the fans will lose respect of this league and will be a fan of something else of some other league. The leagues disrespect towards fans will catch up to them one way or another and if they get burned I hope they get burned hard. There was enough anxiety with the 2004-2005 lockout and fans will get hurt again because of money squabbles. If you are already this far in reading this article, I want you to know that there is going to be no credibility for this. Neither the Players Association or Gary Bettman and his team of owners will not take a fault for this. They may apologize but they won`t claim responsibility. Mr. Gary Bettman will only read whats in the cards made by a professional writer and he won`t say anything for himself. Just be aware of this to come and again he truly won`t be considerate about the fans.Until next time, enjoy the game you love not the politics about the game.
