In today’s world, cosmetic surgery just seems to be growing and growing. The multi-billion dollar business is expected to gross over 40 billion dollars each year by 2013. Some surgeries everybody’s heard of. Everyone knows what a breast augmentation is, and just about everyone knows that liposuction is a way of removing excess fat.One surgery that not too many people recognize the technical name for is rhinoplasty. Contrary to what some people might think, it is not in fact plastic surgery for rhinocerouses. However, rhinos and rhinoplasty do share a common root, that of “rhino,” meaning “nose.” This surgery is more frequently recognized by its more common slang term “nose job” (or nose surgery).A person’s attractiveness is very important in today’s world. Our culture tends to put a large amount of emphasis and value on a person’s outward appearance. For examples of this, you only have to ask yourself how many ugly Hollywood celebrities you can think of, or how often you see someone on the cover of a magazine who doesn’t look good.Given the high importance given to one’s appearance, it makes sense that people want their faces to look good. After all, one’s face is one of the places that people tend to base a lot of their beauty judgments on.Add this all together and when you further consider that the nose is one of the more prominent features of the face (it tends to stick out further than just about any other part of the face except possibly the chin) and it makes sense that it’s a popular area for cosmetic surgery. The surgery can range from around $4000 to around $12,000, but the average prices is somewhere between $5000 and $6000. The exact price depends on a lot of different factors, including the exact nature of the surgery and where the surgery is performed (most cosmetic surgery is more expensive in large metropolitan areas such as New York City). The surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis. It can be performed under either local anesthesia or under general anesthetic. During the surgery, the doctor makes some incisions, generally mostly on the inside of the nose, in order to be able to get at the bone and cartilage that give the nose its form. Then, the doctor proceeds to reshape the nose. If the nose is too large, the doctor will remove tissue. If it needs to be reshaped, the doctor will rearrange the tissue. If it’s too small, the doctor may even take tissue from other parts of the body and transplant it into the nose.
